About the books There are four editions of “Lighthouse Lovers worldwide Travel Guides” every book has more to offer than the last. These books are the original and first books in print for public information put together about Lighthouses you can spend the night in. Beware on Kick-off’s. Because Lighthouse with accommodations and frequently sought after and booked years in advance, they became available quickly, with that in mind I have added Bed & Breakfasts, Inn’s, Resorts, Motels, Hotels, Campgrounds, RV parks and Marina’s that are close to lighthouses, some even share the same property. If you own any previous editions of “Lighthouse Lovers Worldwide Travel Guides” you will notice quite a few changes in the new Lighthouse Lovers “Day Tripper” Travel Guides. I have listened to how “Lighthouse Lovers” travel and the things they do when they visit Lighthouses so that is what is in this book. Do to the large number of people that enjoy and seek out Lighthouse Travel I have put together a series of books called the Lighthouse Lovers “Day Tripper” Travel Guides. There are Seven of them, they are as follows: Southern Lighthouses, Northern Lighthouses, The Great Lakes Lighthouses, West Coast Lighthouses& Canadian Lighthouses. With that in mind, a few have been removed, due to lack of funds, they have had to close their doors, some have become museums, BUT… several have been added. Some have a limited amount of information, some have a great deal. I can only provide you with the information that I had available. In some, cases that was only a website, followed up by a phone call and by talking to other people. If you find information in this book that is incorrect or out of date it is not because I did not try, but because of lack of communication. Regardless of where you choose to take your vacation, each state has its own unique beauty, each lighthouse its own personal, history and every one of them welcomes you with open arms. You will notice that rates are not included in these books; you know as well as I do that the prices of everything changes on a daily basis so the rates for each establishment is available by going to their website or by calling them. The most important thing is that you are going to have a great time on your Lighthouse vacation. By all means feel free to e-mail me and tell me about your vacation, I love to hear about people having a great time.
How the books came to be I paint (not well) but on several occasions while painting Ponce Inlet Lighthouse some fellow Lighthouse Lovers from assorted areas of this country and overseas have stopped to chat and asked if they could spend the night in the Lighthouse. The answer was No to staying at Ponce Inlet Lighthouse but was more than glad to tell people of Lighthouses that they could enjoy in beautiful state & national parks (most of them with campgrounds). After being asked this question over & over I decided that I would find every Lighthouse you could spend the night in along with Lighthouses that offer keepers programs so you and your family would be able to experience the duties that Lighthouse keepers have in the past. While doing the research for the first book I learned about the large expenses that Lighthouses have and with lack of funds from the government that Lighthouses are responsible for their own maintenance and repairs. Lighthouse organizations, societies, foundations and protection groups are truly the life blood of historical preservation to our beautiful lady of the sea “The Lighthouse” If you love Lighthouses, join one, join them all and be part of preserving history. This year when you plan your vacation, plan it at a Lighthouse. Your fee for staying there goes directly to the preservation, protection, up keep and restoration of that Lighthouse.
Some of the growing pains of “Lighthouse Lovers Travel Guides” The first publication of “Lighthouse Lovers Worldwide Travel Guide” was in 2003 although I started the research in 2000. It took two years to gather the information that went into that book, endless hours, little sleep and a very numb butt, not to mention the countless people that told me to get a real job. But my passion to provide fellow “Lighthouse Lovers” with current and up-date information was greater than the "tea parties" request. I thoroughly enjoy the history & education that I get from doing these books. Everyday I write I learn something new, and I fall in Love with the educational experience of it just as I hope you will when you read the information in these books. Please visit these beautiful lighthouses and their surrounding areas, they have so much to offer you and so much to share.
